The Plan is a hand-drawn animation that directly engages the idea of a linear narrative, particularly in the form of an animation storyboard. The video draws on the aesthetics of early animation, from the sound of a pencil recorded on scratchy vinyl to the appearance of a new character at the snap of the artist’s fingers. The character is soon confronted with a storyboard, a potential plan for its future. Instead, our protagonist ventures into a surreal hallway with no recognizable narrative. The short ends with cut-out newspaper letters of the title, a cheeky recognition that the plan doesn’t always pan out.
